Scenario
Amber, a happiness agent, travels through the Himalayas of Bhutan to study people’s happiness. On his journey to the remote mountains, he seeks fulfillment. When I saw Agent of Happiness, I wasn’t sure if it was a satire because calculating the happiness index… seems so simple. I mean, the happiness barometer, if it can even exist, is so complex because there are too many things to consider. It was wonderful to see the interviews the two main characters give to people from different social classes and the jabs at some people who are happy at the expense of others in their family. Perhaps the moral is that if most things in your life are pretty good, you will most likely be happy. Even if that takes into account the number of cows you own or the latest iPhone. The protagonist is charming and I wish I could be as happy as he is in the film, regardless of the causes of his sadness. (Seen at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024.)
